Samsung Sells One Galaxy S2 Every 1.5 Seconds, 5 Million After 85 Days

Samsung just hooked us up with their press kit at the Galaxy S2 launch even in NYC and in it was a rather interesting infographic claiming the company sells a Galaxy S device every 1.5 seconds. Wow.

It first launched on April 29th and the mathetmatical comparisons of sales figures to Mt. Everest, Soccer Fields, Elephants and Father Time aren’t only interesting, but pretty mind blowing. With the US set to pump out Galaxy S devices courtesy of T-Mobile and Sprint, I’m wondering what comparison would come next?

Official: T-Mobile’s Samsung Galaxy S II Is Announced

We’ve just received a press release from T-Mobile announcing their upcoming Samsung Galaxy S II. Details were vague with a release date of “this fall” and no official name for the device (possibly just Galaxy S II?). There’s was definitely no mention of the “Hercules” moniker we’ve known as the device for months now. Details we can confirm are a monster sized 4.5-inch SAMOLED Plus display, 1.2 Ghz Exynos processor, 8MP camera with 1080p video recording, 2MP front facing camera 16GB of internal storage and support for T-Mobile’s 4G network, although we still don’t know if this device will be taking advantage of T-Mobile’s faster 42Mbps HSPA+ data speeds when it’s released.
So there you have it. Other than a bigger screen and slightly modified curvier design, this is pretty much the standard Galaxy S II fare that most of us have been waiting 6 months for. A few things are still left up in the air but providing there are no extra surprises, is this Galaxy S II finally worth the wait?
T-Mobile Statement: Galaxy S II (Aug. 30)
T-Mobile USA, Inc. is pleased to announce the upcoming availability of the Samsung Galaxy S™ II at        T-Mobile this fall. Featuring a brilliant 4.52-inch Super AMOLED Plus touch screen - one of the largest screens available on a Galaxy S II device - T-Mobile’s Galaxy S II promises to keep customers entertained and connected while on the go. We look forward to sharing more information in the coming weeks.

T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint’s Galaxy S II Variants Pose for a Picture

Thanks to Pocket Now we’ve got a nice group shot of the upcoming Galaxy S II U.S. variants. Out of the three, I’m still digging the Nexus S style of T-Mobile’s version, but I’ll be sure to check out all of them equally once they hit the shelves. We should be fully introduced to this threesome this Tuesday at Samsung’s reveal event in NYC. Though Verizon isn’t supposed to get an S II model, there have been rumors there will be a device close in specs coming. This could very well be the LTE Galaxy device we mentioned. More surprises could be in store for Tuesday, so stay tuned.

Samsung Shows Off Galaxy S II E-mail System (VIDEO)

Samsung Mobile USA shows off the Galaxy S II’s e-mail app with a video on YouTube. In the video, you’ll get a peek at the S II’s e-mail system in landscape mode showing off a computer or tablet type of experience. For someone who’s inbox gets slammed daily, this looks like a really handy e-mail view to see everything at once, outlook style. I’m not sure if this would pull me away from using the Gmail app itself, but Id be willing to at least give it a shot and see how it works.
How much more can we be teased before Samsung’s big NYC event Tuesday? I’m not going to lie, I’ve been completely sucked in by the Galaxy S II hype and I cannot wait to get my hands on one. Are you dying to get your hands on one as well? Hit the break for the video and another slide like the one above.

Verizon Reportedly Won’t Sell the Samsung Galaxy S II; Are You Disappointed?

If you were waiting on a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S II with 4G LTE – hell, if you were waiting on a Verizon Galaxy S II at all – we’ve got some  not-so-great news for you. According to the Wall Street Journal, Verizon will not be carrying the dual-core phone by Samsung. When Verizon spokeswoman was asked to comment, she didn’t decline to comment and instead stated that they “have an extensive portfolio that offers customers a great variety of devices, including the Samsung DROID Charge ”
Wall Street Journal claims that Verizon confirmed this news to them, and have confirmed from a source familiar with the matter that Verizon will be not be on hand at the August 29th event in New York. Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T are said to be the only carriers present.
It would be a huge 180 from what we’d originally thought that saw the nation’s number four carrier – T-Mobile  – not carrying the device as they would be getting the powerful Samsung Hercules If the verbiage in WSJ’s report is correct, it appears T-Mobile will indeed be getting their own Galaxy S II-branded device.
With that, it makes us wonder if Verizon has something else under their sleeves from Samsung (if this rumor is indeed true). We’d hate to think that one of the best phones of 2011 (even if it has been out for a while now) won’t be picked up by the nation’s largest carrier. According to recent rumors, that next big phone from Samsung might be the so-called Nexus Prime
So were you looking to pick the Galaxy S II up on Verizon or does this news not affect you? Let us know below!

Samsung IFA app outs Galaxy Tab 7.7, Galaxy Note, and Wave 3

Samsung has been promising us something special for September 1st, which is when the IFA Trade Show in Berlin kicks off. They went as far as releasing a teaser app with the promise that the app could be updated on September 1st to reveal the juicy details.
A tipster decided to look inside the APK and found the three logos in the above picture. We now know they will be announcing the Galaxy Tab 7.7 tablet, a Wave 3 smartphone (with the latest edition of the Bada OS), and a Galaxy Note. Nobody has reported on the Galaxy Note, so we are not sure what it is. As far as the Galaxy Tab 7.7, I think it is safe to say that it is an update to the original Galaxy Tab with a 7.7-inch screen. No other specs were identified at this time.
Stay tuned as more information might leak out, but ultimately, we are going to hear all the details on September 1st in Berlin.

Motorola DROID Bionic receives a gift; No Samsung Galaxy S II for Verizon Wireless

At one time it was thought that Verizon would be the first U.S. carrier to get the Samsung Galaxy S II, and now it seems as though Verizon has decided to not carry it at all. It has been confirmed by the Wall Street Journal and  Brenda Raney, a Verizon spokesperson.
We know the Samsung Stratosphere is coming, but it will be an Epic 4G variant. Of course, rumors are that the Nexus Prime will show up on Verizon, and since it will most likely be made by Samsung, this could have contributed to the decision.
Ultimately I think it comes down to Verizon wanting to have the DROID Bionic and the iPhone 5 as their featured phones this fall. Verizon will put a lot of money into the Bionic and they have a strong relationship with Motorola. Many thought that if it weren’t for 4G LTE compatibility, the Bionic was dead in the water. The Galaxy S II has been declared the better phone and their is no question that it would’ve impacted the Bionic’s sales and success. With no Galaxy S II in play, the Bionic gets center stage.
I would love to hear from Verizon customers. What are your thoughts? I am on Verizon myself and was already leaning towards the Bionic because of the 4G LTE capability.

Video: Galaxy W and Y from Samsung

[Updated with video] Samsung has launched four new Android phones before the IFA trade fair. Two of these, Galaxy W and Galaxy Y, should I sell in Sweden.
Four models will be in Samsung increasing the Galaxy series for next week’s IFA show in Berlin. The two keyboard models Galaxy M Pro and Galaxy Y Pro is “not relevant for the Nordic countries” according to Erik Johannesson Samsung in Sweden. We will instead have to settle for models called Galaxy W and Galaxy Y, both common touchscreen mobiles.
Samsung has not gone out with some detailed specs, but we know that W has a screen size of 3.7 inches and the resolution is 800×480 pixels. The phone is equipped with a processor that has the clock speed 1.4 GHz and can handle data rates up to 14.4 megabits per second. With OS are Android 2.3 versions.
The model is the first in the W-series, where products must be intended for users who want a balance between performance and design. Below you can see a short video presentation that three in the UK have made the Galaxy W.
Galaxy Y is the first in the series which will include models designed for young buyers who are more prices sensitive, and for mobile users in developing countries. Some specifications in addition to a processor of 832 megahertz and Android 2.3 have not gone out with.
Galaxy W will go on sale on the Swedish market in late September and Galaxy Y has sales planned to start in late November. It is not known what the two models will cost.
In addition to Galaxy W and Galaxy Y, Samsung come to share their phones in the S, R or M series. S stands for “Super Smart” and should be used if they are technologically advanced top models. R stands for “Refined” or “Royal” and these are described as premium models that combine performance and productivity. M models will be made up of phones that are both powerful and are sold at relatively low prices.
In addition to letters to the names “Pro”, “LTE” and “Plus”. “Pro” indicates that there is a phone with a physical QWERTY keyboard and “LTE” indicates that the phone has support for LTE technology, i.e. 4G. “Plus” should be used when the phone is an upgraded version of an earlier model.

Samsung’s New Ad Reveals September 9th Launch for Galaxy S II On Sprint?

It was only 4 days ago that we posted on article on the a possible September 9th launch date for the Sprint Galaxy S II (Epic Touch 4G) on Sprint. This would make ‘ol #3 the first out of the gate to offer the Galaxy S II here in the states. The guys at SprintFeed claimed to have an anonymous source providing them with this info and like most things, we took it with a grain of salt.

Fast forward to today, where Samsung released an ad spot on their YouTube channel announcing the impending arrival of their Galaxy S II here in the states. At the end of the video, they prominently display the U.S. version of the GS2 (complete with 4 capacitive buttons) but upon closer inspection — the date on the device’s clock widget is set to Friday, 09/09. Interesting… After seeing a similar stunt when HTC sent out press photos of the Sensation 4G displaying that device’s rumored launch date in their clock widget, this adds just a little more weight to that September 9th launch date we’ve been hearing.
**UPDATE: One of our readers, Ben Taiber, points out that the location in the weather widget also just so happens to be the location of Sprint’s HQ in Kansas City. Nice one!
Of course, we wont know anything until Samsung gives us the official launch dates and details for the U.S. Galaxy S II variants (hopefully) at their August 29th event. But if you’re as excited as I am about Sprint being the first U.S. carrier to offer the Galaxy S II, you may want to plan ahead and take that vacation day come

Sprint Could be the First Carrier to See the Galaxy S II

A source out of SprintFeed tells us that Sprint could be the first US carrier to launch the Galaxy S II, dubbing it the Epic Touch 4G. Disregarding the odd name, the Epic Touch 4G is shaping up to be a very respectable phone, capable of holding its own against other superphones. We’re excited to see it launch on the 9th, and initial previews for the device seem to be positive. Here’s hoping Samsung has some good news for us on the 29th at their launch event.

European Ban On Galaxy Tab 10.1 Lifted By German Court For All But Germany

Here’s a switch for you: The same German court which last week ruled in favor of Apple to ban sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 throughout Europe has now lifted that same ban on all EU countries except for Germany. The court was concerned it did not have the authority to prevent a South Korean company from selling their product beyond their own borders with a preliminary injunction.
Samsung may now begin shipping there tab elsewhere as they wait for that August 25th hearing to decide further on this new limited ban. All the while, more muddy watered accusations are flying over whether Apple may have tampered with evidence in the case.

Samsung Attempts To Downplay European Galaxy Tab Injunction

It was only a few hours ago we reported Apple’s “win” over Samsung in German courts, effectively blocking the Galaxy Tab 10.1 from being sold within the European Union — for now. Interestingly enough, Samsung remains optimistic and in an attempt to reassure buyers, quickly responded to the decision. Kim Titus, Samsung’s director of public relations had this to say,
“This decision by the court in Germany in no way influences other legal proceedings filed with the courts in Europe and elsewhere. The request for injunction was filed with no notice to Samsung, and the order was issued without any hearing or presentation of evidence from Samsung. We will take all necessary measures to ensure Samsung’s innovative mobile communications devices are available to customers in Europe and around the world.”
Seems as though Samsung feels this ruling will not have an affect in their legal battles vs. Apple in other markets but we can’t be so sure. Although we’re definitely in Samsung’s court, this seems like a bad omen of things to come for the Korean company.
