Edge-to-edge screen to be revealed by Motorola

 Motorola has plans for the event next week on 5 September in New York in collaboration with Verizon Wireless. And we will see the release of all of the Motorola DROID RAZR Motorola DROID RAZR HD devices M. Bloomberg now reports that a source familiar with the plans for the event and be one of the devices that will be revealed will Motorola smartphone with virtually no bezel, this gives the screen from edge to edge. If this is true, this makes them unique in the smartphone market. What the new device, such as Bloomberg notes, this will be the first high-level Android device released for Motorola after it was acquired by Google earlier this year.
If we look back through some of the photos that leaked from DROID RAZR HD, and there are some similarities with the latest picture above. DROID RAZR HD or can even rumored DROID RAZR MAXX HD screen sports a lesser extent? This feature is something you would be interested?

Motorola DROID 3 gets Root [Courtesy of XDA]

XDA forum member, dirbliss, has successfully rooted the Motorola DROID 3. It is as simple as using ADB shell to manipulate a few files.
The big news is that this method could work on the upcoming DROID Bionic. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

The Exploit
Log in to the device using “adb shell” and type the following commands:
mv /data/local/12m /data/local/12m.bak
ln -s /data /data/local/12m
Next, physically reboot the device by pressing the power button. When it wakes up, log in using “adb shell” again, and type the following:
rm /data/local/12m
mv /data/local/12m.bak /data/local/12m
mv /data/local.prop /data/local.prop.bak

The ro.sys.atvc_allow_all_adb property is a Motorola-specific configuration that prevents ADB from dropping its root privileges. Reboot the device one final time, and on logging in with “adb shell”, you should be presented with a root prompt. Enjoy!

Motorola Droid 3 Is Rooted

XDA Forums member djrbliss, otherwise known as Dan Rosenberg, has reportedly found a simple exploit to open root access on the Motorola DROID 3 Using ADB shell, a few files are easily manipulated granting super user permissions. While the exploit remains unconfirmed, instructions can be found at Rosenberg’s site (source link below).
The process could have implications for the unreleased Motorola DROID BIONIC a phone running on the same Android 2.3.4 build as the Droid 3. Root access could realistically be attainable out of the box for the highly anticipated superphone.

Motorola DROID Bionic receives a gift; No Samsung Galaxy S II for Verizon Wireless

At one time it was thought that Verizon would be the first U.S. carrier to get the Samsung Galaxy S II, and now it seems as though Verizon has decided to not carry it at all. It has been confirmed by the Wall Street Journal and  Brenda Raney, a Verizon spokesperson.
We know the Samsung Stratosphere is coming, but it will be an Epic 4G variant. Of course, rumors are that the Nexus Prime will show up on Verizon, and since it will most likely be made by Samsung, this could have contributed to the decision.
Ultimately I think it comes down to Verizon wanting to have the DROID Bionic and the iPhone 5 as their featured phones this fall. Verizon will put a lot of money into the Bionic and they have a strong relationship with Motorola. Many thought that if it weren’t for 4G LTE compatibility, the Bionic was dead in the water. The Galaxy S II has been declared the better phone and their is no question that it would’ve impacted the Bionic’s sales and success. With no Galaxy S II in play, the Bionic gets center stage.
I would love to hear from Verizon customers. What are your thoughts? I am on Verizon myself and was already leaning towards the Bionic because of the 4G LTE capability.

Motorola XT531 Blazes through the FCC

The Motorola XT531 has been announced for China, Europe, and Latin America, but it very well could find a US release before its world tour is finished. According to a new FCC filing, the XT531 seems primed for a release on AT&T with support for radio bands compatible with the carrier’s network. The Android 2.3 handset features a 3.5-inch display and dual camera setup (5MP rear/VGA front-facing) and will go by several monikers, including Spice XT in parts of Latin America and Fire XT around Europe. There is no hint as to the name it will be released under if and when it launches in the US.

The DROID HD could be called the Motorola Spyder and carried by Verizon Wireless

Recently we shared leaked photos of the DROID HD. We see a number photos of the Bionic which were also spied in that same article, but today we’re curious about the name of DROID HD. We really haven’t been able to find much information on this Motorola device.
Well there’s now bit more information that has come in. First it’s been confirmed that the DROID HD is indeed not the Dinara as we has previous thought. Instead the source says that the DROID HD is actually codenamed ‘Motorola Spyder’. This DROID HD could be considered kin to the Photon 4G.  As well as the new codename, this device should also be headed to Verizon Wireless, as it’s being reported that the Dinara is being tested on Verizon’s LTE. Where this device ends up we’re not positive. Stay tuned for any additional info that may come our way. You know we’ll pass it right along to our readers.

Will Google End Up Selling Motorola After Integrating Patents Into Their Own Portfolio?

Speculation abound, folks. On Monday, Google proposed to purchase Motorola. I’m sure everyone in the tech world knows that by now. Not only 4 days later, people are speculating on what should happen next. Yesterday, I raved about five things I’d love to see come out of the Google/Motorola deal and many of you chimed in with your own thoughts.
Some people, however, think Google won’t even get a chance to do anything with Motorola as they believe the company will eventually have to be sold off, sans patents. This would obviously surprise us considering how highly Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha spoke of the deal and how they could help shape the evolution of Android because of it. Perhaps he just meant they would be “helping” by giving Google the patents they need to get back to working on Android without all of the legal stuff on the side.
Their (the analysts’) argument is that Google could risk damaging relationships with their current OEM partners if Motorola ends up improving in market share and revenue.
Although Google has clearly stated that Motorola would be independently run as a separate entity and that they would not box Motorola’s competitors out of the Android ecosystem,  it’s possible they could see any bit of special treatment as a sign of favoritism toward Motorola and dump Android in fear that Google will eventually become another RIM or Apple.
For instance, if that Nexus tablet we all want happens to be made by Motorola, competing OEMs will most likely call foul (even if they won’t publicly). And if Motorola gets major versions of Android before everyone else? That’s a riot waiting to happen.
Because of these reasons, some analysts think Google will quickly integrate their newly-acquired patents into their own portfolio and sell Motorola to someone else once that’s complete. Most think Sony Ericsson and Huawei would be best fits for the sale due to their need to strengthen their market presence in regions where Motorola currently shines.
It would be an interesting move by Google if they do end up doing something like that. I can’t imagine Motorola would like to be, and excuse my french, whored out to other companies after being stripped of their patents. But that’s all speculation and, at the end of the day, it’s Google’s call.
Analysts believe the sale of Motorola Mobility without the patents would attract at least $1 billion and could be worth as much as $5 billion.
So this can only be treated as a “what-if” scenario. If OEMs start to get antsy over Google and Motorola, Google might have to sell Motorola in order to make the many partners who make Android successful happy by making them believe there is no favoritism.
Conversely, if OEMs don’t care then Google will probably just sit on Motorola and enjoy the patents all the same. In any case, the buyout has yet to be approved and we shouldn’t even be talking about another sale until this one is completed.

Leaked Verizon MAP Reveals Motorola DROID Bionic’s Pricing After 2-Year Agreement

The guys over at Droid-Life managed to snag this leak of a Verizon MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) listing Motorola’s upcoming DROID Bionic for the low, low price of $300 with a 2-year agreement. The leak also confirms that heavily rumored September 8th launch date. Yesterday we discovered the Bionic’s full price at $589 and it seems 300 is the new price point for Verizon’s premium handsets ever since the Droid Charge debuted a few months ago. Factor in taxes and you’re spending a pretty penny to have a piece of Motorola’s latest gadgetry. Can I see some hands of who will still be picking this up come Thursday morning on the 8th?

Motorola FLIPSIDE Gets Android 2.2 Update

While it isn’t nearly as exciting as an upgrade to Gingerbread, the lowly Motorola FLIPSIDE for AT&T has been lifted into the good graces of Android 2.2. The update is available as a downloadable file to be flashed from a microSD card, and Moto provides full instructions over at their support site. Aside from the possibility of a maintenance update or two down the road, this is probably the end of the line in terms of new Android versions for FLIPSIDE owners, so get it while the going’s good.

Big Hardware Compensating for a Terrible Name, Bell Motorola XT860 4G is a Go

In the final round of phones to be released this quarter, Bell is showcasing the Bell Motorola XT860 4G just in time to compete with the HTC Sensation, Samsung Galaxy S II 4G, Moto Atrix 4G, and several other self-proclaimed “superphones”. The XT860 4G (can we just call it by DROID 3 or Milestone 3?) comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a hefty dual-core 1GHz CPU and a 4” qHD touchscreen at 960×540. Moto claims that this phone is the thinnest slider available, at just 12.9 mm thick, but its hefty 167 grams may turn some away. So may the convoluted name.
