3D Magic Words is an addictive scrabble word game puzzler that adds a bit a magical dazzle in a 3D environment. My seven year old daughter actually discovered this game when she downloaded a slew of apps on the tablets and I was immediately sucked in, as it packed the same addictive qualities of most word games, plus the initial rounds were not to difficult for her to participate.
There are two play modes; Standard and Speed. Standard starts you with three minutes to solve the designated percentage (staring at 60%) of word combinations from six letters (word combinations range from three to six letter words). The percentage goal rises as you progress through each level, don’t meet the percentage goal and game over. You can either shuffle the letters randomly, which does a nifty 3D animation of the magic wand tapping the blocks; or use one of the free hints like a lifeline. The speed mode is challenging as you continue to solve in the same way, yet you must meet the percentage threshold as fast as possible; because the time left when completing one level becomes the start time of the next level. It adds the sense of urgency an initial rounds, but becomes impractical in the next round when, say you’ve completed the previous with ten seconds to spare… now your next round starts off with ten seconds to solve that percentage of the round.
Throughout the game you get time and hint bonuses which help. You can upload your high score to a simple online leader board… nothing fancy like OpenFeint showing your name next to your score at least, nope- just a number next to a number. For the socialites scores can be posted to Facebook.
The game comes with some quarks though. At random it will force close during the higher levels of the game, worse- it won’t even show the “Force Close” options to allow for informing the developers. It happens typically at the worst times when you’re giving the game some word-smackdown and reminds me of my youth when the Nintendo would freeze just when you’re kicking butt, as if the game-gods were against me.

This game draws in the non-puzzler because of how simple it is to solve words from limited scrambled letters. For those who love a good descrambling challenge this casual game does the darndest job of holding true to its genre.
What starts as a simple time waster game divulges you for scores of minutes at a time. It holds pure addiction power in the game play, but perhaps can even be expanded on by adding gamification incentives like achievements & leader boards via OpenFeint or Scoreloop .
3D Magic Words has a neat 3D environment set on a magic show stage. It makes for a more engaging casual yet highly challenging gaming experience.
3D Magic Words features sound effects, background music and vibration; which of course can be toggled for a silent game.
