Get ready to rack up double letter bonuses and triple word scores on the go! Scrabble Free Android app from EA puts the classic word game in your hands and on your Android.
Sound too good to be true? Read on. I’ll give you all the dirt in my Android app review of Scrabble Free.
Gameplay
The Scrabble Free Android app is played just like the classic board game you know and love. Use the seven randomly drawn letters you receive to create words. Each letter is assigned a point value, and there are boosts and bonuses littered across the board to help you along.
Scrabble Free
Rack up the most points by the end of the game to win. That all sounds pretty standard, it’s the app extras that make Scrabble Free Android app shine.
There are three different game play modes. You can use a Gmail address to create a Scrabble Free ID, then play against your friends. Or, you can play random opponents using your Android’s data connection. There is also a pass and play mode, where you can play an entire game passing one device back and forth.
I wish there was a Bluetooth game play option. I also found myself wishing for a versus computer setting, for when it’s hard to find a Scrabble Free partner.
Additional gameplay features include a best word boost, in-app dictionary, exchange, pass and shuffle options.
User Interface
Scrabble Free Android app is easy to control. I particularly like the pinch to zoom function that helps you place tiles more accurately. You can even drag and drop your tiles right on your trough, in case that helps you play a better game.
I do need to mention the huge quantity of ads in this app. Between moves screen-wide apps pop up. I had a little trouble with them (read on) and thought that in addition to banner ads, huge ads while swapping players in pass and play mode is overkill.
Stability
Scrabble Free
Unfortunately I did experience a few stability issues with Scrabble Free Android app. Several times the advertisements would not load properly, and I either had to return to my Android’s home screen or use the back button to get back to the game.
Other times, the app collapsed while I was attempting to launch a game. Both times this occurred was while loading the pass and play mode, I did not experience the issue with the play friends mode or the random opponent mode.
Value
If you can overlook the insane amount of ads, Scrabble Free Android app is really an awesome quality. I’ll be honest, I would rather spend a dollar or two on a version of this app without the ads.
